Nollaig Dunphy

Nollaig Dunphy, a native from Cork, is a psychotherapist with a passion for abstract painting. Nollaig uses her art to explore human emotion and perception using colour and shape.

“I like to layer the painting before I make definite decisions on how the shape or colour might have an expression. Then I focus on that alone. Invariably it becomes figural, but then blends with the rest of the painting as it sits in it’s own domain.

My work is representative of my own life and relationships, though of course abstract it’s not visible to others. However I paint in the hope the observer will be pleased, curious, and perhaps taken momentarily to another place.

I feel huge gratitude for the sense of knowing and fulfilment I get from these expressions and experiences.”

Hidden Connections Exhibition

Nollaig worked at the Quay Co-op for several years in the 1990s and has chosen to return for her first exhibition. Hidden Connections. Her exhibition features all new work created during 2022. Speaking at the launch of her exhibition, Nollaig said, “It feels really fitting to be back at the Quay Co-op. I can genuinely say that getting involved and working at the Quay Co-op was the best thing that ever happened to me and it’s where I met all of my closest friends. It is such a supportive space and has allowed so many people including myself to find our way and be true to ourselves.”

This is Nollaig’s first exhibition as she has stepped back from her day job allowing her more time to immerse herself in her art.
